For Hajipur; From Hajipur!
Dr. Ashutosh Singh
Science, integrity, and action — for Hajipur
Son of Hajipur. Scientist, researcher, PhD — committed to bringing what Dr. Singh has learned in America and Europe home.
Biography
Dr. Ashutosh Singh was born in Hajipur — the same city where monsoon rain turns streets into rivers, drains overflow, waste piles on roads, and the lack of accountability in hospitals too often means poor students and families receive undignified treatment. Here, ill-treatment by officials, doctors, and sometimes teachers has been normalised — but it is not normal. This fight is personal: Dr. Singh grew up seeing how low quality of life can be, and later lived and worked across America and more than twenty European countries — learning firsthand how societies function at every level — cleanliness, order, dignity, and basic services that every citizen deserves.
Dr. Singh is not a career politician. Dr. Singh is a scientist and problem-solver who has proven himself in every sphere — from Surajdeo Memorial School through M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology (Mechanical Engineering), Britannia Industries, Politecnico di Milano (Invest Your Talent in Italy), Prima Additive, research in France, a joint PhD in Materials Science (Georgia Tech and the University of Lorraine), a Marie Skłodowska-Curie MSCA Fellowship, and today as a scientist in Luxembourg. Dr. Singh believes transforming Hajipur does not require waiting only on government — on the ground, through citizen organisation, professionals, and honest leadership, basic things can change: waste management, drainage, school quality, accountability in healthcare, and administration based on merit.
Unlike ordinary Indian politicians who promise and forget, Dr. Singh is not on that path. Dr. Singh identifies problems, understands solutions, and is committed to bringing to Hajipur the standards seen in the developed world.
Moral Obligation to Society
His grandfather taught him: "If we improve ourselves, every home will improve; when homes improve, society will improve; when society improves, the nation will improve." Dr. Singh has sought to prove himself in every sphere — education, research, industry, and life across America and Europe.
His sense of duty toward society became iron-forged when his aunt (bua) lost her young son — a tragedy deepened by the carelessness and failure of a government hospital. The grief did not leave him. If a family with education and standing could suffer such a loss, he began to ask what awaited the poor and the weak — those who have lost hope and accepted misery as their fate.
In Hajipur he sees that resignation daily: homes flooded in the rains, streets choked with waste, dignities lost in hospitals, hopelessness toward officials and teachers. Many have accepted poor treatment as normal. It is not normal. Because he has seen how societies function across America and more than twenty European countries, he acknowledges a responsibility others cannot yet see — to bring that knowledge to the people of Hajipur and Bihar.
He draws strength from Prahlada Mahārāja's prayer in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (7.9.43): "May all beings be happy and free from misery. I do not desire blessings for myself alone — I desire the welfare of all living beings."
Transforming a constituency does not always require waiting on government. On the ground — sanitation, drainage, schools, health awareness, transparency — much can begin with citizens and professionals organised with purpose. He seeks allies who bring merit, integrity, and vision — not the culture of career politicians, but a culture of solutions.
Professionals in Policymaking
Ashutosh Singh believes good people are pushed away from policy and public life — when those who have seen the world, with scientific and professional experience, are exactly the ones who can deliver solutions. Hajipur does not need career politicians — it needs visionary leaders who understand problems and fixes. Basic change in a constituency can begin on the ground without waiting only on government; but it requires organised cooperation from professionals, youth, and honest citizens.
The 2025 Decision — Sacrifice and Jan Suraaj
In 2025, Dr. Ashutosh Singh resigned from the position of Senior Scientist at CNRS in France — a deliberate sacrifice of the scientific career Dr. Singh had built across India, America, and Europe. Dr. Singh's plan was to devote full energy to Hajipur and Bihar: to stand against poor policymaking, to bring the standards seen abroad, and to offer an alternative to career politics.
Dr. Singh's aim was never office for its own sake. When Jan Suraaj emerged, it promised voters capable alternatives — not a repeat of familiar politics. Dr. Singh believed that if a new force was genuinely offering change across Bihar, entering the Hajipur race personally would only narrow their chance. Dr. Singh did not contest the 2025 assembly election.
Later, when the calibre of candidates and the clarity of intent did not match what had been promised — when old patterns seemed to return — Dr. Singh felt regret. Dr. Singh's commitment remains unchanged: for Hajipur, bring scientific thinking, integrity, and work on the ground.
